LACEAAA’s honoree and guest speaker was DWP’s Commissioner, Mr. Leland Wong [subsequently, Mr. Wong has been re-appointed to the Airport Commission]. Mr. Wong spoke to guests on the importance of Asian-Pacific Islanders pressing for more promotional opportunities in the Civil Service sector. Mr. Wong emphasized the importance of this pursuit and how we as a collective group need to make our elected representatives more accountable to the API workforce. "Wong has been president of pretty much all the juice commissions the city has to offer -- Airports, Harbor and DWP. What the members of these commissions do (at least some of them) is funnel money and gifts to elected officials from the people who want city business. He's so plugged in, it doesn't even matter who is mayor -- Wong gets a commission slot." Leland WongLeland WongFocus on Kaiser's Leland Wong - Big Time Spender of Kaiser Permanente Patient Money

In case you ever wondered how Kaiser and the for Profit Permanente got so many big government contracts  and can block so many government investigations this page will give you a great big clue!

Read the articles listed below and see the connections between him, Kaiser money and elected officials  from all over California.  Kaiser claims that they never noticed for many years that this man was using large  sums of their money to do all sorts of illegal and/or unethical things in California. Perhaps they have a major  accounting problem or perhaps they are a part of the problem.

I (Vickie Travis) had some personal experience with this man Leland Wong on two different occasions.   Now retired LAPD Homicide Detective John Berdin told me that I had to get Leland Wong's permission  for a police investigation regarding the murder of my father by Kaiser Permanente employee Dennis Kane.

Also, Parker Center told me the same thing and gave me Leland Wong's phone numbers.  I telephoned  Leland Wong and asked him point blank and later begged him for permission to have LAPD  conduct a murder investigation.  Leland Wong told me that he couldn't because he worked for Kaiser.  What a coincidence that Leland Wong was also a commissioner overseeing retirement for LAPD.

I didn't undertand at the time why these police officers insisted I get a Kaiser employee's permission for LAPD to do their job.  Today I do.

BTW - One of the Kaiser executives, Dan Garcia , that took part in investigating Leland Wong and was also on some of the same commissions as Leland Wong in Los Angeles, including President of the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners

(Mr. Garcia was a partner in the law firm of Munger, Tolles and Olson, and also served as a member of the Los Angeles Planning Commission and President of the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners)/ Both should be in hot water up in Oakland for the information recently made public by Justen Deal. Ex-airport commissioner accused of conflict Prosecutors say ex-Hahn associate Leland Wong voted on a concessions contract at LAX in which he allegedly had a financial stake. Hahn's administration who already is facing bribery charges, was accused Thursday of a felony conflict of interest for voting on a retail concessions contract at Los Angeles International Airport in which he allegedly had a financial stake. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-wong1jun01,1,5143939.story?coll=la-headlines-california&ctrack=1&cset=true

Judge Denies Challenge To Indictment Against Leland Wong Wong Accused Of Accepting Bribe http://www.nbc4.tv/news/10569678/detail.html LOS ANGELES -- A judge Tuesday denied a defense challenge to an indictment against longtime city political insider Leland Wong, who is accused of taking a $100,000 bribe while he was an airport commissioner. LA corruption case includes allegation of sex favors Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Indicted former airport commissioner Leland Wong bought sex massages for a top aide to former Mayor James Hahn in an effort to secure a city contract for a client, newly released court documents allege. Wong, who was allegedly receiving bribes from a company seeking a new port contract, paid for the 90-minute, $130 massages to influence then-Deputy Mayor Troy Edwards, prosecutors said in documents unsealed Tuesday. mirrored at:  https://kaiserpapers.com/businesspractices/politicians/lwmassages.html

Evergreen Marine denies bribing ex-LA Port Commissioner Deutsche Presse Agentur Published: Friday August 25, 2006

"We paid Leland Wong 5,000 US dollars per month from 2002-2004 as a consultancy fee, so he he could help us obtain more space for containers at the LA Port," the statement said.http://rawstory.com/news/2006/Evergreen_Marine_denies_bribing_ex__08252006.htmlmirrored for historical purposes at:  https://kaiserpapers.com/businesspractices/politicians//rawstory.html
Wong Wielded Clout in a Low-Key Manner By Ralph Frammolino, Times Staff Writer August 24, 2006 http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-me-profile24aug24,0,4407142.story?coll=la-headlines-politics"He also stepped down as director of Kaiser's government and community relations department for Southern California. The reason: An internal investigation revealed he had directed staff members to organize political fundraisers, in apparent violation of laws that prohibit nonprofits from partisan activities.

Until his departure, Wong had kept a firm political grip by combining his skill as a solid political fundraiser with his position at Kaiser, where for 16 years he not only served as a lobbyist but directed the nonprofit's charitable largesse to clinics, boys' clubs and other community organizations that are important in an officeholder's district."

City Hall Insider Accused of Bribery By Ted Rohrlich, Times Staff Writer August 24, 2006 http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-wong24aug24,0,2247719.story?coll=la-home-headlines"Wong, who grew up in L.A.'s Chinatown and maintains a home in San Marino, owed his rise in civic life to his willingness to raise money for politicians and his longtime day job as Kaiser Permanente's director of government and community relations. The position gave him sway over $4 million a year in Kaiser grants to Southern California charities, labor unions and community groups.

It was "the best base" a local political operator could wish for, said a veteran commissioner, who did not want to be named so as not to alienate colleagues. "If Councilman A said, 'I need a new play set in my park', Kaiser bought a new play set. If Councilman B really believed in muscular dystrophy, Kaiser would contribute to muscular dystrophy."

His position also gave him the chance to hand politicians treats such as tickets to Lakers games and other events at Staples Center, paid for by the HMO giant."

Key Hahn Figure Pleads Not Guilty By Michael Muskal and Ted Rohrlich, Times Staff Writers 11:30 AM PDT, August 23, 2006 "Leland Wong, a powerbroker in the administration of former Mayor James K. Hahn, pleaded not guilty this morning to a 20-count indictment that alleges he took a bribe as part of a "pay-to-play" arrangement." "The indictment charges Wong with 13 counts of grand theft by embezzlement, one count of accepting a bribe, two counts of conflict of interest, one count of perjury and three counts of filing false tax returns."http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-082306wong,0,1016095.story?coll=la-home-headlines
Department of Water and Power Commissioner and former Airport Commissioner Leland Wong resigned from his position in January 2004 after a lobbyist for a major airport concessionaire told The Times that Wong had tried to pressure his client to steer business to the daughter of a Hahn fundraiser. Questions were also raised about Wong's alleged use of the funds of his employer, Kaiser Permanente, for political purposes. Wong denies any wrongdoing. https://kaiserpapers.com/businesspractices/politicians/hahninkaiserpocket.html

How Leland helped Mayor Hahn

http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m5072/12_25/99696564/p1/article.jhtml

"Hahn would not have been able to find a place for Contreras had Airport Commissioner Leland Wong not gone to the mayor a few months ago saying he wanted to move to another commission. Wong, a Hahn loyalist, was serving his third stint on the commission (he had served under both mayors Riordan and Tom Bradley) and said last week he was "getting a little tired of airport issues"

"According to City Hall lobbyist Richard Lichtenstein, Wong, with his connections to the Asian business community, was "too valuable to remove completely.""
