  Man Suspected of Shooting M.D. Kills Self

LOS ANGELES - A man suspected of shooting and wounding a doctor at a hospital in a Los Angeles suburb 
killed himself Sunday outside a fast food restaurant, police said. 

Investigators had been looking for Eugene Guevara, 73, in connection with Friday's shooting of a doctor at Kaiser 
Permanente Medical Center, police said. Guevara was once a patient there. 

Guevara shot himself in the stomach and, after authorities arrived, shot himself in the head, Officer Don Cox said. 
He was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he died. No one else was injured. 

The gun recovered outside the restaurant near downtown Los Angeles was the same caliber as the weapon used 
in the Baldwin Park hospital shooting. Police searched Guevara's home Saturday, but did not say if they found evidence. 

Police locked down the hospital after Friday's shooting and spent hours searching for Guevara, who was identified 
by hospital employees from a surveillance tape. 

Dr. Reynaldo Hernandez, who works in the hospital's urology department, was in stable condition at the hospital 
Sunday after being shot three times, said Kaiser Permanente spokeswoman Reyna del Haro. It was not immediately 
known when Guevara had last been admitted to the hospital or whether he was one of Hernandez's patients. 

Guevara left behind a suicide note, but investigators do not know why Guevara shot the doctor, Cox said. The 
contents of the note were not immediately disclosed.
